To honour the strength and courage of refugees worldwide and to stimulate public awareness and support for refugees, Black Cat Cinema hosts this special event on World Refugee Day with a screening of ‘Flee’. This 2021 animated Danish documentary follows the story of a man under the alias Amin Nawabi, who shares his hidden past of fleeing his country Afghanistan to Denmark for the first time.

The film received a nomination at the Academy Awards for Best International Feature Film, along with nominations in the Best Documentary and Best Animated Feature categories, becoming the first film in history to be nominated in all three major categories simultaneously. Besides this, ‘Flee’ won multiple international awards, including Grand Jury Prize in the World Cinema at Sundance Film Festival, and is considered to be one of the best movies of 2021.

Venue Information: Black Cat Cinema's host for this open-air event is Arroz Estúdios: A members-only, non-profit Cultural Association based in the Beato area of East Lisbon. If you're not already a member of the club, a 1-year membership is just €3 (cash only) at the door. You can find the location right here. The movie starts at 21:00. The bar opens for drinks and music from 19:00. Pizzas and popcorn are available from 20:00. We always recommend bringing a warm jacket and/or blanket.
